Cervical cancer vaccine reminds girls of sexual risks

21:00 27 October 2009 by Linda Geddes (http://forums.beyondvaccination.com/search?rbauthors=Linda+Geddes)

Fears that vaccination against the virus that causes cervical cancer (http://forums.beyondvaccination.com/article/dn4455-testing-for-cervical-cancer-virus-could-save-lives.html) might encourage girls to become more sexually active are unfounded, suggests a survey of UK teenagers who have received or been offered the vaccine.
Nearly 80 per cent of girls questioned said that being vaccinated against human papillomavirus (HPV) (http://forums.beyondvaccination.com/article/dn11265-cervical-cancer-virus-is-common-in-the-us.html) reminded them of the risks of sexual contact. Only 14 per cent agreed that they might take more sexual risks because they had been vaccinated (http://forums.beyondvaccination.com/article/dn11842-us-conservatives-block-cancer-vaccine-for-girls.html).

Loretta Brabin (http://www.manchester.ac.uk/research/loretta.brabin/) at the University of Manchester, UK, and her colleagues gave questionnaires to 553 girls offered the Cervarix vaccine in the UK between October 2007 and September 2008. "The vaccine actually made them more aware of the risks of sex," she says.

Six per cent of girls were forbidden from being vaccinated by their parents. Of these, just under half said they wanted to receive the vaccine. "This is the first insight into how a girl decides whether the vaccine is important to her and who influences her decision," says Brabin.

Now, go the the article link.

I put up a comment, but whether it will stay there or not, I don't know:

Why does The Scientist ONLY say, "Six percent of girls were "forbidden" from being vaccinated... just under half ... wanted to receive the vaccines"...?

Why doesn't the scientist also say that 50 girls who were forced by their parents to be vaccinated against their will, did not want to have the vaccine, and 135 girls wouldn't recommend the vaccine to others?

Why the blantantly biased language, making parents out to be demons on only one side of the argument?

The medical profession complains about lay media creating beatups by twisting ideas and words. The New Scientist has just done exactly the same thing.

there is just no logic to all this and it is so frustrating.....to say the least.

It just seems that these people either have an agenda or they are really just plain stupid....probably both, which I wouldn't care about except these are the people influencing the media, the masses etc; :bangshead:
