Hello! I'm known to many of you from elsewhere. :nana::nana:

I have two daughters, 2 & 4 years old. 4yo was partially vaxed, she had the 2, 4 & 6 month vaxes due to my inner good girl doing as the big doctor said. I questioned it all at the 2 month appointment but was brow beaten into submission & my poor DD copped the vaxes. 2yo has never even had paracetamol.

Now we think DD1 (4) may have whooping cough, as she was casually diagnosed with it by a naturopath/homoeopath in the supermarket tonight, so I'm off to research it some more. I have a homoeopathic first aid kit & am hoping I have the right stuff on hand. Looks like it's going to be a long night with her waking coughing every half hour or so. Poor little sausage.

Any advice here very welcome! Should I give her Aconite tonight when she wakes?

There are some good threads on Pertussis under the vaccine sections with heaps of really good info.

I hope she gets better soon.

BTW, welcome to BV.

Glad to see you made it

I have no idea with regard to the homeopathics, but it doesn't hurt to try them right?

If she does have whooping cough the aeroplane treatment (http://forums.beyondvaccination.com/showthread.php?t=550) may be worth looking into. Do you have sodium ascorbate (vit C) in the house? If not let me know and I'll drop some over.

Welcome.

I've never found homeopathics particularly effective for whooping cough over 30+ years, so now don't even bother. I just get straight into biomedical stuff like Sodium ascorbate, and in critical cases, suggest that dosh should be doled out for a sight seeing flight :D

Thanks for the welcome. I have calcium ascorbate in powder form here. Will that work as well as sodium ascorbate? I also have some 500mg chewable C tabs here. As for the flight, well it's a great excuse to go for one! Any donations to help prove the theory most welcome! :giggle: I finally got to sleep at about 5am. Not a fun night. *yawn* I'm hoping it's just croup still. Will talk to the naturopath again in a minute.

Sodium ascorbate would be better. Check out the first post in the vitamin C thread (http://forums.beyondvaccination.com/showthread.php?t=345) for an explanation of the different types of C. Do you want me to bring some SA over? It comes in a powder form and dissolves easily in a bit of fruit juice.

Fingers crossed for you that is it just croup.

Have made dr appt for 3:15 today. Want to get the swab done to know for sure. I don't like quarantine! I'm now thinking croup.

Well, if it IS whooping cough, and if trips to a doctor (if you are doing that) cost an arm and a leg, the money used for that, might be better spent sightseeing :giggle:

Keep in mind that if it is pertussis then the dr will be required to report it to the health department.

I must say I'm nervous about going to the doctor, but we've been in contact with quite a few wee babies & pregnant women so I'm kind of feeling obligated to do the swab to be able to let them know too. Is there a definitive way of knowing the difference between croup & wc without a swab? What's the appropriate quarantine period of each? Half hourly coughing fits that sound like a barking seal & often ending in tears (4yo) & her saying she can't breathe. There is no whoop sound as yet. She's had this for 2 days. Last night was hellish - worse night so far. Daytime she's coughing a bit - normal breaking kind of cough though, bit sniffly, couple of sneezes but otherwise okay. She didn't have a fever to really note last night, but was a tad on the warm side. I don't do thermometers... What does it sound like to you? Night before she had fever & chills, was rugged up & shivering.

You can tell I'm tired, this is the 3rd edit... I just gave both children a level tsp of calcium ascorbate (2500mg) in fresh squeezed oj before I read the vit c info. Should I give sa later today (will go to chemist soon, but thanks for the offer serephina - you're welcome to visit anyway if you want to be around us!) or wait until tomorrow for further doses?

The symptoms you've described do sound a lot like croup, particularly the "barking seal" type cough. Is the cough worse at night? If it's croup then I wouldn't worry about a quarantine period any more so than I would with the common cold or flu.

I found some of different types of coughs that might be helpful.

No, you are not obligated to do swabs for their sake, since whooping cough is all around the place. To think that youmight be the only source is without foundation.

Is there a definitive way of knowing the difference between croup & wc without a swab?

Yeah :giggle: wait and see. But as I said down below, whooping cough starts with a mild cold which seems to go away, and then a cough starts gradually...

What's the appropriate quarantine period of each? Why should croup have a quarantine period, when they don't know exactly what causes it?

Half hourly coughing fits that sound like a barking seal & often ending in tears (4yo) & her saying she can't breathe. There is no whoop sound as yet. then the sooner you get vitamin C into her the better, whether it's croup or wc.

If it's wc, you should notice improvement within 12 hours, and hopefully, radical improvement within 48 hrs, but please read up how to do it. "How" is the key.

You've not given us an accurate description from start to finish. Serephina might know, but that might be because you've talked together.

Have you read the post on whooping cough to understand the whole progression yet? http://forums.beyondvaccination.com/showpost.php?p=3096&postcount=2 If not read that, then tell us what you think. By reading that, you should be able to analyse whether or not there is a possibility it's whooping cough. For a start, whooping cough, starts with a mild cold which appears to go away, and then gradually a cough starts, which gets worse and worse...

Should I give sa later today (will go to chemist soon, but thanks for the offer serephina - you're welcome to visit anyway if you want to be around us!) or wait until tomorrow for further doses? this post here, starting about half way down, talks about proper vitamin C management of WC. But read the whole thing carefully: http://forums.beyondvaccination.com/showpost.php?p=3099&postcount=3

hi deesalie! Thanks for all the info MT.

I recorded DD1 coughing last night & there's a definite whoop sound, but after mega vit c yesterday (resulting in a bit of diarrhea), last night was much better than the night before. The process pertussis takes is not right though, so I'm assuming it's not wc however to play on the safe side, I'll treat it like it is & keep up the vit c. Can't hurt anyway!

Yeah, well you can probably do without the diarrhoea... :D

I'd back off a bit.
