I just picked this one up from the library, along with a few others. I didn't realize she just wrote it in 2008. She talks about outside substances effecting us, as well as vaccines, and virus. Anyone read it? The others I picked up was "The invisible invaders-viruses and the scientists who pursue them". That one I saw on the shelf and got out of curiosity. I picked a few up from the book list here on BV as well as some home school books too.

Oh, there was one- The Polio Paradox-anyone read/heard of it? Talks about Polio, and then how years later-today, people are exhibiting symptoms. Something that they were asymptomatic as children, but are not now?

Did you receive your book yet?
So far it appears she is pro vax by some of the comments in the first few chapters. So far though, if her facts are correct about pesticide and chemical build up in our bodies, it once again makes me wonder, "how do we stay healthy in this world"? As an example, I eat the best I can, though it's not always organic, there are numerous electronics in the house, is the mattress we sleep on ok, the bed frame or even other furniture, the shoes we wear, or clothing? Goodness, I live 10 min away from the gulf-and we go almost daily to the beach in the summer-how much containments are we putting in our bodies there? It just makes me think that no matter what we do to help our bodies, we are surrounded by bad. Especially if we live in the city, and even the suburbs.
And if Nakazawa's facts are correct about the amount of chemicals in placenta, cord blood and breast milk, how far fetched is it that giving an infant a vaccine, who's immune system is already full of all of these things, can indeed trigger an autoimmune response? She mentions that as of 2005 I think it was, they could still find DDT in a person, though it is not supposed to be in use any longer.

You study epigenetics, and realise that the worst thing - the biggest killers in the world are stress and fear.
You do what you can, and get on and live life with a smile on your face. That smile, and a real inside happiness regardless of outside circumstances, can keep your immune system in better shape than most things. And if you have a real faith, then that's the icing on the cake.

I've just read Nakazawa's book. Really great. I get the feeling she has a lot of respect for orthodox medicine but at the same time she is quite open minded and believes more in the specialists who are more at the alternative end of the spectrum.
I think her book was really well put together and makes a strong case about how crazy this world is becoming and how the money rules, and because the Money wants to keep it's big profits intact, it isn't going to let it out of the bag that all the chemicals it's inventing every year are not researched properly and are probably causing the massive autoimmune epidemic in the populous.

I just finished reading this book too and really enjoyed it. It's definitely the type of book that could scare you if you thought about it too much, but as Hilary says, the biggest killer is stress, so no point in getting overly caught up. I agree with Mr Beyond Theory, she seems to hold the medical establishment in very high regard but its great that she touches on things like vaccinations and while sort of remaining pro-vacc, she points out the dangers of vaccinations in what she terms the 'barrel effect' where your body (the barrel) gets so full of chemicals, viruses, vaccinations etc that when its full to the brim, it only takes one trigger to push you over the edge and an autoimmune disease develops. It just reminded me to keep doing what I am doing which is watching what myself and my family eat, try and be as organic as possible, avoid chemicals in beauty products and plastics and stay away from vaccinations! All in all a good read. More people need to be aware of the dangers of 21st century living.
stress needs to be broadly defined though. not just the "i'm stressed with this crappy job" sort of thing. but it can also include relationship stress (husband/partner is stressed with his/her crappy job and brings home that stress), environmental stress (including chemicals, nutrition, etc.), and physical stress from misalignment of the body (though i'm not sure if the latter has a direct epigenetic effect).
