My little man who had tonsillitis last month was better but he and his sister seemed to bring home a vomiting virus and were both up 2 nights ago vomiting both only had one bout of gastro and yesterday both seemed slightly better. Today my daughter is fine but my boy well he slept for 17 hours last night woke for one hour and went back to sleep for an hour and a half then just lay on the lounge or our arms all arvo looking into space.
He has now gone back to bed at 5.30pm,my husband is freaking me out by saying he has all the symptoms of swine flu. I had read up on all the swine flu crap and felt confident about it but now he has me worried.
At first i thought perhaps his tonsillitis had come back as he seems to have a sore throat he hasnt eaten all day ony drank water and some milk. But he is so tired and lathargic that it is worrying me.
I guess i am hoping for some other input from others who may have experience the same type of symptoms or may have some advice.
I have been totally dosing them both up on vit c powder SA and probiotic powder plus echinacia and manuka honey so i cannot understand why it has hit him so bad.
I am due in 4weeks to have my third baby and now i am stressing,i cant have him this sick while i am in gone for a few day's,my husband would'nt keep up the vit c and probiotics like i would.
I have backed off the vit c powder the last two days due to him have gastro but i gave him some tonight again.

If it is swine flu, than he will be sick for a few days to a week and then he'll be better. Keep pumping up his immune system. Whatever it is will work itself out.
Some illnesses really do hit people harder than others. We had our two most potentially serious illnesses to date last fall, and I'm pretty sure the kids were at their best ever, or pretty close, for dealing with illnesses.
Swine flu really seems to be a fairly run-of-the-mill flu, it's just that more people are getting it than usual. The intensity really doesn't seem to be worse than usual influenzas. I assume that's what we had last fall when we had a flu-like illness and local schools were closing due to low attendance and CDC said flu cases were extremely high here. The kids seemed sickly for a week, DS got his first ever ear infection, but mostly just extra work for me, not intense extra worry.
Whatever it is, keep an eye out for the usual stuff, dehydration, I tend to want to see movement of the illness. I mean--a fairly reasonable pattern of falling ill, being sick for a bit and then improvement. When I don't see that, or I feel like new symptoms are cropping up fairly late in the game, I start problem-solving more aggressively. For us, nutritional support seems to be a biggie, maybe supplemental zinc. A few times now, I've seen illnesses deplete my kids on nutrients, zinc's an issue for us and is quite involved in immune function, so that's something to consider beyond what you've already mentioned.
When you say "milk," is that your milk or cow's/goat's milk? You may want to skip cow/goat milk for a while, obviously not applicable to your milk.

Well a quick update i fell seriously ill within hours of posting this and was taken to hospital at 5am,being 36 weeks pregnant was a concern.
I am better as in i have finally stopped the severe vomiting and the rest but still feel ill and only able to take water and a little bit of food.
My boy is doing better however 5 days after he first fell ill he is still majorly lathargic and wont eat much just lays around and sleeps alot.
I feel the same so i can sort of understand now what he is going through and figure i have a few days left to wait this thing out. Unfortunately the the severity of my vomiting etc has brought on some small contractions so i am hoping that calms down and dissapears so for me it is rest rest rest as much as i can for the next 4weeks.
Thanks for your replies i was concidering zinc actually as i had read some good things about it for the immune system.

did the hospital tell you what was "causing" the problems for you and your son? I'm presuming they did tests...
If your nutrition has been first class during this pregnancy, being 36 weeks won't be a problem. Our oldest was born at 37 weeks at 8 lbs 1 with no respiratory issues, and our youngest at 40 weeks at 9 and a half pounds.
Neonatally, the last 6 weeks are usually fine tuning, and putting on fat. When I was 34 weeks with the younger one, I had a really bad accident which provoked contractions - shock can do that.... - and the next day the doctor said that because the baby was already 7 and a half pounds, if he was born early there wouldn't be too many problems. He wasn't. the contractions calmed down and he went to term.
But we used to joke that the last few weeks were the fat packing stage. Ideally, yes, term is best. That's the way we are designed, but if your health and diet has been good, 36 weeks shouldn't be a major drama.

They did take tests on me and it was just a real bad vomting and gastro virus but somehow we both copped it the worst my daughter vomited twice a couple of squirts and was over it and the husband escaped sickness alltogether.
I think being pregnant made myself all the worst but my son is all better now and full of beens today and i feel fantastic.
some kids just deal like that with illness.......they hardly move for a few days..... and then totally bounce back, it can be stressful when they get so lethargic.
I also like to give my kids zinc, I just add a few drops to their juice together with SA when they are sick. Astragulas is also a great immune booster after the fever has gone.
I have also given SA when the kids get tummy bugs, I don't think that it makes the diarrhea worse it just does it's usuall good job :)
I hope you are feeling better, throwing up at the end of pregnancy is not fun :( wishing you all the best.
one of my little ones was also born at 37 weeks and weighed in at 7 lb 6 oz and was healthy and strong!!
