I don't quite understand the value of pillemer's work ( WK : Louis Pillemer (1908 - August 31, 1957), was an American immunologist, an early investigator of the alternative complement pathway (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alternative_complement_pathway) (a system of defense not dependent upon antibodies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antibodies).) )

Would someone help ?

Louis Pillemer discovered properdin, but his colleagues excoriated him privately and publicly, and he received so much abuse he committed suicide.

His work was instrumental in investigating a part of the cellular immune system no-one was particularly interested in looking at.
