MT has posted in the past I think about Terry Whals who had MS and effectively cured herself with diet. I found this blog post at MDA about why we need to eat veges which I thought was very good as i sometimes need to remind myself of these things.

I was talking to a friend of mine about this and he said:
I constantly struggle with diet. My acupuncturist made several comments on long life and also on the book about Dr. Wahls.
This was his opinion much of which I find credible.
* He noted Dr. Wahls worded her book quite carefully: How I overcame ... and got myself out of a wheelchair. Undoubtedly, there is probably good stuff in their for everyone, but everyone doesn't have the same problems or exact requirements. (I'll note that Michael Pollan "In defense of food" discusses that various populations lead long healthy despite eating completely different diets). He predicted her approach would only work for a limited set of people (much like most drugs).
* His observations for those living healthy lives into old age (he treats lots of older patients) in order of importance:
1) Regular rigorous exercise but always stopping before they get overexerted
2) Strong family support group without strife at home
3) No unusual critical stress occurred in their life (loss of a child, loss of parent too early, war etc)
4) Decent diet
We also spoke at length about how differently people can die from things like cancer. Very interesting.
There is a lot of truth in that.

For sure. She is also in America so prob had to phrase it like that. I also always say that stress is the biggest factor even if i do use that line as an excuse for my nefarious habits.
