Seeing as I've read everyone else's intro, I guess I can't postpone trying to figure out what to say for myself any longer. lol
I'm Trudy, mom of Jillian who is 4 and Jonas who is 2. I live in Canada, and I'm thinking I can probably take the title of being the sole Canadian at the moment.
Jonas is completely unvaxed, and Jillian started out on a delayed/selective schedule despite my misgivings. She had a reaction to her 2nd DTaP/HiB-IPV (Pentacel,) vaccine, and that started me searching even deeper into vaccines and led to the decision to not vaccinate anymore.
I think we have it relatively easy here in Canada when it comes to choice of vaccination.. I don't have to sign anything or worry about anyone claiming neglect for me not vaccinating my kids. There's no proof of vaccination needed for schools or daycares or anything here... I told the health unit I wouldn't be vaccinating my son and didn't need the home visit after he was born and haven't heard from them since except for the annual "get your flu shot" letter that comes in the mail. :eyeroll: But hey, no annoying calls or pressure to deal with anyways...
Of course the struggle here is the same as everywhere - trying to find unbiased information to make a decision is difficult, and the powers that be don't want to encourage informed consent. I'm not incredibly experienced in the world of homeopathy, and am more venturing into that information tunnel as the need arises.
My kids have both been breastfed and my 2yr old is still nursing. He's cloth diapered as well with the exception of overnight, though I hope to change that in the next few months and get him back into cloth overnight. I have wished for a homebirth, but I had a complicated pregnancy with Jonas and he was born 7wks premature and my hubby never would've been convinced prior to Jillian... I don't think I would've convinced myself prior to that either...
I have a lot of passions. I guess mostly I like to learn and I like to share information. I like to empower people to make their own choices that work for them and their families. I work at a baby store 3 evenings a week and my favorite thing to tell pregnant moms is that as long as they follow their hearts and do what feels right with their babies, that it will always be right. And I always tell them that they're going to get all sorts of parenting advice from everyone else, but all that matters is what works for them and their babies. :D
And maybe I could say more, but I won't right now. I have a tendency to ramble sometimes - especially on a vague topic like introducing yourself. So I'll leave it here and say I look forward to getting to know everyone better. :)
