GREENWICH, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut health officials say the number of flu cases in the state is at the lowest level they've seen since they began collecting data in 2003.
The Public Health Department says there were only 58 confirmed cases in Connecticut as of Dec. 27 in the flu season that began in October. Officials say there were about 150 cases at the same time last year.
State Epidemiologist Alan Siniscalchi says there appear to be fewer strains of the flu this season, and vaccines are more effective.
Connecticut saw a record flu season last year, with thousands of cases being reported.
Federal officials responded to the high number of cases nationwide last year by changing all three strains of flu virus in the vaccine.
Officials say peak flu season usually begins this time of year.
